Our Church
Our Beliefs
Promise Ministries is a body of believers who believe in the inerrant Word of God, we believe in God’s promises, and we believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. This church body believes that in Christ and through Him we receive the promise of salvation. As John 14:6 states, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” We also believe and value the working of His Holy Spirit in our individual lives.
Our foundation is built upon the Gospel message. Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Jesus Christ came to earth to live a sinless life and suffered crucifixion and death as an atonement for man. He arose from the grave on the third day to defeat death and sin so that man has the opportunity to live.
Mission Statement
The mission of our church is to live out the Great Commission from Matthew 28: 19-20. It states, “Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” We strive to live out the two greatest commandments given by God. We are to love God and love others. We love others by adhering to I John 4:7-8 which states, “Beloved, let us love one another for love is of God, and everyone that loveth knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God for God is love.”
History of the Church
In the year 1998-99 a group of college students began a Bible study at the Tri-Cities Airport. This study was led by Steve Lay. Steve had been a Youth Minister in the Atlanta GA area for over 15 years. College students from ETSU, King, Tusculum, Milligan, and Northeast State joined together in unity and purpose. This purpose was to worship and to study God’s Word. It was this Bible study that became the impetus for the birth of “Promise Ministries Church”.
Steve Lay became the founding pastor and the church was officially incorporated in 2005. The name Promise Ministries was chosen because we believe, teach and claim all the promises found in God’s Word. The church first officially met at the Hampton Inn and then moved to South Park, and then to a larger facility at The Renaissance Center in Kingsport TN. We soon found ourselves blessed with the building we now call home at 2244 Hall Street, Kingsport TN 37660. The way God provided this church building for us was truly a miracle.
