Thursday Thoughts

Luke 10:29 “But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

There is no substitute for truly learning Scripture other than to live through it. How often do we see someone on the side of the road and ask ourselves “should I stop and see if they need any help?” If we are being honest we all do. Many times the situation will dictate the best course of action. Obviously, the scene itself will determine what we are able to do or not do. But what if the scene was safe? What is the responsibility of a Christian in times like this? Well, from my experience yesterday we can all be better. I had an incident where I had to sit for an extended period of time on the side of the road with my hazard lights on and wait for a tow truck. I was not in danger or in great need (other than needing jacket). I just took this time to watch. There were no fewer than fifty cars that passed by on this particular side street (including a policeman) who did not stop to ask anything. There was only one man who wanted to know if I needed anything.

Sounds like a familiar passage, right? Who is our neighbor? The one who is in need. I am not perfect in this. How many times could I look back and wander, “what could I have done differently?” Although my truck needs some repair, I am grateful for this setback so God could teach me a lesson – let’s love our neighbors better.
